Helldivers 2 is finally coming to Xbox this month and developers have teased a Halo crossover.
Helldivers 2 launched last August for PlayStation 5 and PC gamers. The sci-fi shooter was a surprise hit, selling more than 12million copies in its first few months and winning big at the 2024 Game Awards.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed Helldivers 2 would be launching for Xbox on August 26 and cross-play between different platforms would also be possible. In a new teaser trailer, developers Arrowhead Studios have now teased a crossover with Xbox-exclusive title Halo.
The ‘Bring The Boom’ trailer is soundtracked by nu-metal titans P.O.D. and their 2001 hit ‘Boom’. The 90-second video shows lots of chaotic gun fights in space before encouraging viewers to pre-order the Xbox version of Helldivers 2. The mood then changes to a Helldivers drop-pod arriving on a rain-drenched Super Earth as a familiar saxophone refrain plays out.
Fans were quick to recognise that snippet of saxophone from 2009’s Halo 3: ODST soundtrack (specifically the song song ‘Rain (Deference Of Darkness)’) with many convinced a full crossover event is just around the corner.
While most Halo games followed the ferocious Master Chief, Halo 3: ODST saw players get to grips with the more fragile, less menacing United Nations Space Command Marines, known as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, so an ODST-inspired collab should make perfect sense in the Helldivers 2 universe.

Despite the Xbox launch of Helldivers 2, the title will “definitely not” be coming to Xbox Game Pass and there are “no plans” for that to change in the future, claimed a Discord community manager (via Gaming Bolt).
Earlier this week, Helldivers 2 fans accused Fortnite of ripping off the game for the chapter six season four update. “Hmmm… it’s giving ‘we have Helldivers at home,’” community manager Katherine Baskin wrote on Discord when asked about the similarities.
In other news, changes are coming to Roblox viral hit Grow A Garden. The creator has apologised for a number of “repetitive” updates and promised a “new era” is imminent.
