With excellent performances and rich tapestry of characters, Task will likely go down as one of the best TV shows of 2025.
Created by Brad Ingelsby (Mare Of Easttown), the miniseries follows FBI agent Tom Brandis and his newly formed task force as they investigate a string of violent robberies against stash houses run by an outlaw motorcycle gang.
Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey lead the show’s cast, alongside Emilia Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Raúl Castillo, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Silvia Dionicio and Martha Plimpton.
All seven episodes of Task are available to stream on NOW in the UK.
Is Task season 2 happening?

At the time of writing, HBO has not confirmed whether Task will return for a second season.
The show is billed as a miniseries, which implies it wouldn’t be extended, but several shows in the same vein have received additional seasons due to their popularity – such as Big Little Lies, Beef and The White Lotus.
What has the show’s creator said about a potential second season?
Recommended
Task creator Brad Ingelsby has explicitly said he’d “love” to return for a second season, although it’s unclear if he has any specific ideas in mind.
“I’d love to have a chance to do another season of Task,” Ingelsby told Esquire. “What I love about TV is just how many characters you get to explore.
“I really see myself as a character writer and not a great plot writer. And so what I love about TV is that you get to explore the Grassos, the Lizzies, the Aleahs. If I was to do a movie, unless I was Robert Altman, I just wouldn’t be able to tap into that many characters.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ingelsby even mused over the idea of a crossover between Task and his previous series, Mare Of Easttown, as they’re both set in the same location of Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
“I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” Ingelsby said. “They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare walked into a Wawa that Tom was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.”
