At Willow Hill, Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) both discover ‘Lois’ is actually an acronym for Long-term Outcast Integration Study. In other words, the institute has been secretly imprisoning and experimenting on outcasts.

While we’re led to believe Dr. Fairburn (Thandiwe Newton) is behind these experiments, it’s revealed her assistant Judi (Heather Matarazzo) is the true villain. Judi, the daughter of Augustus Stonehearst, tells Wednesday and Uncle Fester she is continuing her father’s experiments in order to give ‘normies’ the powers of outcasts.

Fester uses his powers to spark a blackout which sets the locked up outcasts free, with the ongoing ruckus allowing Wednesday and Fester to escape.

Elsewhere, Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci), who unleashed the Hyde monster within Tyler (Hunter Doohan), runs back to save him. However, Tyler transforms into the monster and chases her down and appears to kill her, before vowing to find Wednesday next.

The Hyde inside Tyler catches up with Wednesday as she goes to escape Willow Hill. In the closing scene, we see Wednesday pushed out of a window by the beast, as the final shot zooms out from her unconscious body.

“I’ve always dreamed of looking death in the face,” Wednesday remarks in the closing narration. “But in my final moments, all I hear is my mother’s words ringing in my ears. Maybe I have made everything worse. Much worse.”

Is Wednesday actually dead?

In case the narration didn’t give it away, a trailer for the second part of season two reveals Wednesday is still alive – albeit in a coma. It’s unclear how long she’ll be bedbound for, but the trailer’s closing moments show she does eventually wake up.

Does anyone die in season 2 episode 4?

Slurp kills both Dr. Fairburn and Augustus Stonehearst in the midseason finale. While Laurel Gates, aka Marilyn Thornhill, appears to die at the hands of Tyler, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have teased she might return.

Speaking to Tudum about the character’s future, Gough said: “Christina Ricci is just an amazing person and actor, and she brings such value to the show, and the character’s so wonderful. Never say never.”

“I will say, in this show, no one is officially dead dead,” Millar added. “There’s always a way.”
