The actor is renowned for his past role in Doctor Who and the profane spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the political satire The Thick of It, but he has launched a successful career in music too – releasing his second solo album ‘Sweet Illusions’ last year.
He also recently appeared on stage with Franz Ferdinand at Glastonbury‘s Other Stage to team up on their classic hit ‘Take Me Out’.
Last night, he headlined his own concert at the Stereo, which saw him perform a host of tracks from his recent album and 2021 LP ‘St. Christopher’ along with his cover of The Cure which you can view below.

His take on The Cure hit comes after Robert Smith performed The Cure classic with Olivia Rodrigo during her headline set on the final night at Glastonbury.
Speaking about his own turn at Worthy Farm with Franz Ferdinand, Capaldi recently told NME: “Alex [Kapranos] just got in touch with me. We had some mutual friends who are musicians. I had been praising Franz Ferdinand, and I think that got back to them. They decided, ‘That’s who we want to have around – someone who praises and loves us’, which is good because I’m a fan of theirs. Alex just got in touch and asked if I’d like to play with them at Glastonbury! Who’s going to turn that down? I didn’t know what he meant.

“I thought, ‘There must be a gimmick here. Is it some sort of Doctor Who-related song? There’s a song called ‘The Doctor’ on the new album, maybe he wanted me to do that? I didn’t want to do that. I said, ‘What do you want me to sing?’ ‘Take Me Out’. What? This fabulous song that everybody knows? Yes, please!”
Speaking to NME previously about his recent album, he described the record as “nostalgic”.
“I’m always trying to discover for myself who I am, musically – without being too grand about it,” Capaldi said.
“You know, I am light-hearted about it, but I do take it seriously and try my best,” he continued.
“The whole thing has quite a nostalgic feeling about it, but the nostalgia is probably for that period because I’m picking up where I left off. It’s a bit art studenty, Glasgow, 1978, rainy… but I’m plugging it with synthesisers and fat guitars.”
Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Pedro Pascal has also recently admitted that The Cure are his favourite band.
