Ahead of the band’s induction – for which Carrey delivered a hilarious speech – Carrey, Momsen, Soundgarden and other musicians gathered around of a round of pictures. Carrey and Momsen took a couple of pictures together, marking the first time they’ve seen each other since How The Grinch Stole Christmas premiered in 2000.

Speaking briefly to press on the red carpet, Carrey “we haven’t seen each other since The Grinch,” while Momsen added: “Yeah, it’s been 25 years! This is insane.” Watch the moment below.

Once they were done snapping photos together, the pair shared a hug, followed by whispers to each other. They then joined Soundgarden for another round of photos. Following their brief reunion, Momsen shared a collage of their pictures together from the gig and from How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

She also reflected to People magazine about working on the film with Jim Carrey, telling the publication: “I just love that he was very protective of me. He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming ‘Grinch’ and getting to know him so well, even in all the makeup, was just wonderful.”

Momsen continued: “As a young person watching an artist at work and taking their craft so seriously, that left a really powerful, lasting impact on me as an adult now. And I’m excited to be able to tell him that as a grownup.”

Following Carrey’s speech inducting Soundgarden into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell, Brandi Carlile and Taylor Momsen of the Pretty Reckless (who served as opening act on Soundgarden’s final tour prior to Cornell’s 2017 death), joined the band onstage for ‘Rusty Cage’ and ‘Black Hole Sun’. As for How The Grinch Stole Christmas, NME named the film the 8th best Christmas movie of all time back in 2022: “A fairytale fantasy with a villainous performance from Jim Carrey, How the Grinch Stole Christmas isn’t afraid to get dark. The candy-coated Whoville setting looks absolutely gorgeous and Carrey is allowed to be as weird, wacky and wonderful as he likes. The result: an outlandish festive favourite.”
