They opened the comeback gig with a rendition of ‘London, Can You Wait?’ from their 1995 debut album ‘Olympian’, ahead of outings for ‘Be My Light, Be My Guide’ and 1997’s ‘We Could Be Kings’.

Later, Gene aired ‘As Good As It Gets’ from their 1999 third album ‘Revelations’. The group treated the crowd to two encores – the final of which concluded with ‘Who Said This Was The End?’. The latter was released as a bonus track on some editions of the band’s fourth and final album, 2001’s ‘Libertine’.

Sharing a video from the show, Gene wrote: “In the blink of an eye, we are back. Thank you, Leeds 🙌🏼.” See that post below, along with a selection of fan-shot clips and photos from the night.

Speaking to NME earlier this year, frontman Martin Rossiter promised an “epic show” with no “half measures” as Gene geared up for their return.

He explained that the reunion was down to Creation Records founder Alan McGee. “Alan is like one of those regional stage hypnotists in Adidas [trainers],” he said. “You do find yourself being easily persuaded by him, but I’m glad he did.”

As for what fans can expect from the setlist, Rossiter continued: “It’s not gonna just be ‘Olympian’, we’ll throw in what the young-uns call a couple of deep cuts. We’ve got a shortlist of 30 songs and I think we’ll probably end up playing 25 of those, so it’s going to be a fairly epic show. We’ll probably be on stage for about two hours.”
