Deftones debuted several new songs from their new album ‘Private Music‘ as they kicked off their North American tour. See the footage below.
The band performed in Vancouver on Friday (August 22), marking the first stop on their North American tour, which will see them play shows in Edmonton, Minneapolis, Baltimore and more, alongside Phantogram, IDLES and The Barbarians Of California. Visit here to purchase any remaining tickets.
The gig took place the same day as the release of ‘Private Music’, their first LP in five years, which follows on from 2020’s ‘Ohms’. To celebrate, they gave album tracks ‘my mind is a mountain‘, ‘infinite source’ and ‘milk of the madonna‘ their first-ever live performance.
They also paid tribute to Brent Hinds of Mastodon, who died in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday (August 20), aged 51. “I dedicate this song to a very dear friend, Mr Brent Hinds,” frontman Chino Moreno told the crowd, before playing their 2012 track ‘Entombed’.

NME gave ‘Private Music’ a glowing five-star review, with Andrew Trendell writing: “‘Private Music’ once again finds the band as masters of beauty and brutality rolling over the horizon in one stunning but powerful storm. Batten down those hatches, throw up those horns, and lean in close.
“Very much a whole journey through a full-bodied and expansive fever dream, but this time somehow spiritual, intimate and direct, Deftones’ 10th album is a gift for fans old, new, and certainly finding them in the very distant future. Their peers can’t touch them.”
In other news, next year Deftones will play a run of UK and European dates.
The shows kick off in Paris on January 29, before heading to Brussels, Hamburg, Munich, Lodz, Berlin, Dortmund, Stuttgart and Amsterdam. After that, Deftones come to the UK on February 12 with a show in Birmingham’s BP Pulse Live, followed by stops in Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin and Cardiff.
They round off the tour with a huge show at London’s The O2 on February 20. Denzel Curry and Drug Church will be joining them as special guests, and tickets are available here.
