Viral sea shanty band release official Pokémon anthem

Pokémon has shared the official soundtrack for the 2025 World championships, featuring a song by viral sea shanty group The Longest Johns.

The Pokémon 2025 Worlds championship takes place this weekend (August 15 – 17) in California and will see competitions for Pokémon GO, Unite and the official trading card game. “The 2025 World Championships is the peak event of the 2025 Championship Series season, where competitors from all around the globe will battle for the title of World Champion.”

To help get players in the mood ahead of the event, The Pokémon Company has shared an official six-track soundtrack album. Vocalist Michelle Ray features on a trio of upbeat songs while NateWantsToBattle, Anna Prosser and Cam Steady have delivered a ‘00s-inspired pop-punk belter.

The closing track to the Pokémon Worlds 2025 soundtrack is the folksy ‘Face The World’ by The Longest Johns. The Bristol-based trio are best known for their rendition of folk classic ‘Wellerman’ which kickstarted the TikTok sea shanty trend in 2021. Check out the full album below:

“The pinnacle of Pokémon competition is nearly here—the best Pokémon competitors are getting ready to face off at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships! To help you get in gear for the festivities, the 2025 Worlds soundtrack is out now,” reads the official description. “These songs are an annual commemoration of the Play! Pokémon community—whether you enjoy playing the Pokémon video games, the Trading Card Game, GO, UNITE or visiting Pokémon Center pop-up store these tracks bring the champion vibes to get the party started.”

The Longest Johns also performed at the opening ceremony for the Europe International Championships back in February.
