A relatively unknown actor has reportedly been testing for the role of James Bond, as pre-production gets underway on the 26th film in the franchise.
There has been a lot of speculation on the new 007 adventure, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
It is the first film in the series since Amazon took over creative control of the franchise, which is looking for a star to follow Daniel Craig, who bowed out in 2021’s No Time To Die.
Knight has promised a film that will be “the same but different”, while several young actors linked to the starring role have weighed in on the prospect. Recently, Tom Holland, who was rumoured to be on a shortlist from the studio, called it “the pinnacle of working in our industry”, while fellow contender Taron Egerton said: “Nobody’s asking me to do it but also, it’s possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest.”
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a new actor has screen tested for the part. Scott Rose-Marsh, a 37-year-old British actor, was brought in sometime in late June to read sides from 1995 Bond film GoldenEye, around the time Villeneuve was hired. It’s suggested he also may have performed pages from Knight’s in-progress script for Bond 26. The article claims the actor “was given just one piece of direction before the test cameras rolled: Don’t impersonate a previous Bond.”
The would-be 007 has acted in numerous film and TV projects, including the 2021 independent movie Krays: Code Of Silence, as well as the UK TV shows Chloe and The Outlaws. Should the report be accurate, the actor’s age would go against rumours that Amazon would be looking to go with a younger actor in his 20s.
