New Black Myth Game, Zhong Kui, Announced With Teaser Trailer

After achieving breakout success with Black Myth: Wukong in 2024, developer Game Science is returning with a sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Game Science announced the game with a teaser trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

“This single-player action role-playing game draws its primary creative inspiration from the famed Chinese folk figure Zhong Kui,” reads a line from the game’s description.

The game is still in “early development,” so there is no in-game footage available just yet–just the cinematic trailer unveiled at Gamescom, which you can check out below. The game is coming to PC and “all mainstream console platforms.”

It’s so early in development that Game Science isn’t even done with the outline for the game yet, the studio said in a FAQ post. However, the company is already prepared to say that “you won’t be playing a monkey role this time.” The studio is now working on “exploring and experimenting with the concrete differences between Wukong and Zhong Kui.”

“So take it easy–let us impress ourselves first before we serve it to you,” the studio wrote in the FAQ.

The original Black Myth came to PS5 and PC in August 2024 and lands on Xbox tomorrow, August 20. The game has already sold more than 25 million copies and an expansion is now in the works.

Black Myth has been controversial in some circles. Game Science’s guidelines for content creators asked them to avoid discussing “feminist propaganda” and COVID. A report from IGN in 2023 documented the alleged sexist and misogynist commentary from the development team.
