‘Trailer Park Boys’ star Mike Smith reportedly charged with sexual assault

Mike Smith, best known for playing Bubbles in the cult comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has reportedly been charged with sexual assault.

According to court documents obtained by Canadian media outlets, the 53-year-old actor was charged on October 2 by Halifax police for an alleged assault that dated back to December 2017.

Smith has been ordered not to communicate with the alleged victim, whose name has not been made public due to a publication ban.

Details surrounding the alleged assault have not been shared, and the actor himself has yet to issue a public statement addressing the allegations.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax today (November 10).

Set in a fictional trailer park in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Trailer Park Boys follows three longtime friends and petty criminals, with Smith a central character.

The Canadian mockumentary series first aired in 2001 and ended in 2007, but was later revived by Netflix, with the 13th season expected to arrive next year.

Trailer Park Boys Inc., which oversees the show’s production and streaming, said in a statement that it was taking the matter seriously and said Smith has now “stepped away” from his role as managing director.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the company said (via Consequence). “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved.

“Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case. At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated, and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities.”

Back in 2016, Smith was arrested and charged with misdemeanour domestic battery following an alleged incident at a Los Angeles hotel, although Smith and the alleged victim later released a joint statement denying the allegations, clarifying that they were friends who’d had a “loud and heated dispute”.
