Tom Holland reportedly cannot pursue James Bond role due to Spider-Man contract

Tom Holland’s Marvel contract may rule him out of the race to play James Bond, according to a new report.

The search is currently on to find the replacement for Daniel Craig, who bowed out as the secret agent in 2021’s No Time To Die.

Many British actors have been linked with the part, including current Spider-man Holland, who said it would be “the pinnacle of working in our industry.” Other actors have ruled themselves out, including Taron Egerton, who said “it would be wasted on me”, and American star Glen Powell, who said the role should go to an “authentic Brit.”

It appears, however, that Holland may be excluded as well. The Sun have reported that his Spider-man contract with Marvel precludes him from playing “any other parts that will overshadow that one”.

That would undoubtedly rule him out of the running for 007, with a source close to the situation telling the paper: “Tom can’t play two superheroes, it just won’t happen.”

The 26th Bond film will be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, and written by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight, who promised the film will be “the same but different.” In September, it was reported that Amazon, who took over creative control of the franchise in February, are keen on a “fresh face” to play the part, and are aiming to cast an actor in his late 20s or early 30s.

In August, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that a new actor has screen tested for the part. Scott Rose-Marsh, a relatively unknown star, was brought in sometime in late June to read sides from 1995 Bond film GoldenEye, around the time Villeneuve was hired. It’s suggested he also may have performed pages from Knight’s in-progress script for Bond 26.

The article claims the actor “was given just one piece of direction before the test cameras rolled: Don’t impersonate a previous Bond.”

In other news, fans are convinced Lana Del Rey is behind theme for James Bond game 007: First Light.
