The US President announced the recipients of the prestigious award, which “recognises and celebrates individuals whose unique artistic contributions have shaped our world,” according to the Washington, D.C. arts center earlier this week.

The five recipients who will be honoured in December include Sylvester Stallone, KISS, country music singer George Strait, Broadway star Michael Crawford and Gloria Gaynor.

Cruise was apparently offered the award but declined due to “scheduling conflicts”, according to The Washington Post, which cited current and former Kennedy Center employees on the condition of anonymity.

The Mission: Impossible star is yet to publicly comment on the report.

Before announcing the award recipients this week, Trump suggested that he be honoured next year, as he had never received one, reports The Independent. “I waited and waited and waited, and I said, ‘The hell with it, I’ll become chairman and I’ll give myself an honour,’” he said. “Next year, we’ll honour Trump, OK?”

Last year, Francis Ford Coppola and the Grateful Dead were among the honourees.

Elsewhere, Cruise recently attended Oasis‘ first Wembley gig – despite Noel and Liam Gallagher previously sharing their dislike of him. His attendance was confirmed by Goldie, who shared a selfie with Cruise from the gig at the stadium.

It comes after Oasis were previously caught on camera slamming Cruise in their 2007 tour film Lord Don’t Slow Me Down, where Noel declared: “He’s a little fucker, and he’s not been in one good film in his entire career.”

Liam then agreed that Cocktail was “great”, before saying: “I hate Tom Cruise. Bastard. Him and Michael Owen.”

Elsewhere, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski recently suggested a way to get Cruise to work with Brad Pitt again after their turn in Interview With The Vampire.

“Well, right now, it’d be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise’s] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and [F1 lead] Sonny Hayes have a past,” he told GQ.

“They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths … I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview With [The] Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?”
