The fourth season of fantasy series The Witcher has arrived on Netflix, but does Ciri survive her capture? Find out below.
All eight episodes of the season landed on the streaming service on Thursday (October 30), with an official synopsis reading: “After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they encounter unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good…”
For the first time, the role of Geralt is not filled by Henry Cavill this time around, after the Superman star announced in 2022 that he was departing the show, with many speculating that he left due to creative differences. Liam Hemsworth has stepped into the role for the new episodes, although his introduction has not been met with universal acclaim.
Season five of the show – which was filmed back-to-back with season four – will bring the series to an end. Between them, they adapt the remaining three books by Andrzej Sapkowski, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake, promising to offer an “epic and satisfying conclusion” to the hit fantasy drama.
Reviewing Cavill’s final episodes in season three, NME‘s Alex Flood wrote: “There is definitely something compelling about The Witcher, something that has kept us hooked through 21 hours of storytelling. We can’t quite put our finger on what, but if you pushed us, we’d probably say (sorry, Netflix) that it has something to do with Cavill. These final episodes zip by in a whirl of flashing swords and witty retorts when Geralt’s on screen, but get bogged down when he’s off it.”

Throughout the fourth season, we see Ciri living under a false alias with the Rats and being captured by Leo Bonhart, while Geralt crosses the Continent to search for her.
In the final episode, Bonhart brutally executes the Rats in front of Ciri in an effort to traumatise her, including her partner Mistle. While she is psychologically devastated by the events, she does ultimately survive, albeit profoundly changed. She also remains isolated in captivity and as the final episode draws to a close, her fate is unresolved.
With Geralt engaged in a major battle and the sorceress Yennefer confronting her own enemies, they are not reunited with Ciri, and their future remains in the balance.
