‘The White Lotus’ reportedly headed to France for season 4

The makers of The White Lotus are reported to have decided its location for the fourth season, with the series said to be moving to France.

The hit HBO show follows a week at a different branch of the fictional resort chain The White Lotus, with a different ensemble cast each time. The first season was set in Hawaii, and the second in Sicily.

The most recent third season was filmed in Thailand and was one of the most successful yet, with the eighth episode finale drawing the biggest audience in the show’s history. It also earned 10 nominations at the Primetime Emmys, due to be held on September 14, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Now, a report from Deadline has revealed that France is being considered as a location for the fourth season.

While no specific resort has been specifically locked in, the article highlighted HBO’s marketing relationship with the Four Seasons hotel chain and pointed to the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera as a location that would be in keeping with the show’s previous resorts. The famous hotel has connections to the film industry, as it is close to Cannes.

As yet nothing has been officially confirmed, either in terms of location or cast, for the fourth season. However, the success of the most recent season has put some of its younger stars in the spotlight, with Patrick Schwarzenegger’s snub at the Emmys drawing ire from fans.

There were also reports of on-set drama during filming, with cast member Jason Isaacs expressing frustration at speculation surrounding his remarks in interviews. “So I’ve said a few times, ‘You make friends. You lose friends, romances or whatever; things happen between departments and all the backstage drama that we’re all used to.’” He explained during a Los Angeles Times roundtable discussion.

“Well, the online world went mad trying to deconstruct, trying to work out who knew who and who was [doing what].”

There were also online rumours of a rift between Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, who play couple Rick and Chelsea on the show, based on their Instagram activity which seemed to exclude each other, as well as Goggins’ reaction to a Saturday Night Live sketch which mocked Wood’s appearance. Both actors recently shot down the rumours, with Wood calling the speculation “irrelevant” and Goggins insisting “We care about each other very deeply.”

Recently, Isaacs’ co-star Sam Nivola hit out at people who describe him as a ‘nepo baby’ given his parents are both successful actors.
