‘The Walking Dead’ actress Kelley Mack dies, aged 33

Kelley Mack, who played Abby on the ninth season of The Walking Dead, has died aged 33.

The actor passed away on Saturday (August 2) in her home town of Cincinnati, following a battle with glioma of the central nervous system. A family statement shared on her Instagram account said: “It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go.

“Kelley passed peacefully on Saturday evening with her loving mother Kristen and steadfast aunt Karen present. Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express”.

She was best known for the role of Adeline, aka Addy, in The Walking Dead, who appeared for five episodes in the hit zombie show as a resident of the Hilltop Colony of apocalypse survivors. She would also appear in episodes of TV shows 9-1-1 and Chicago Med.

On film, she would record lines as Gwen Stacy in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, providing a voice match for star Hailee Steinfeld. She also appeared in the independent movie Universal, alongside Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas, which played at film festivals earlier this year.

Among the tributes on her Instagram post were The Walking Dead cast member Alanna Masterson, who played long-running character Tara in the series.

“What an incredible human” she wrote, adding that she was “so proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together”. Gustavo Gomez, who played Marco in the show, commented: “This is heartbreaking. I feel so lucky that our paths crossed. Your bright light will always shine on”.

Kelley Mack is survived by her parents, Kristen and Lindsay; siblings Kathryn and Parker; grandparents Lois and Larry; and her boyfriend Logan.
