Recently, the media giant signed a new deal with generative entertainment company Wolf Games, who will develop a range of video games inspired by some of NBCUniversal’s IPs.

The deal will see Wolf Games become a “true creative partner” and create “narrative games with a deep understanding of story logic, character integrity, and world-building”.

“This unique capability to protect and honor storytelling at scale, along with the focus on using ethical generative AI, was a key driver for the partnership that will allow fans to play within their favorite IP universes like never before,” Wolf Games claimed in a statement (via Variety). The company said that its “focus on using ethical generative AI was a key driver for the partnership” with NBCUniversal.

“Wolf Games is combining human creativity with cutting-edge AI technology to create unique gaming experiences, and we look forward to exploring how this technology can be used to build out experiences for fans of our beloved IP,” added NBCUniversal vice president Lindsay Vogelman. It’s not been announced which of the many franchises NBCUniversal oversees will be used.

”Our proprietary AI engine is designed to do what traditional entertainment can’t: create gaming worlds that think. Every player becomes part of something that feels alive. We’re dissolving the wall between storytelling and play, transforming passive fandom into active participation. It’s the future of engagement,” reads Wolf Games’ website.“We move fast, we build beautifully, and we create experiences that move people.”

Their first project is an original IP murder mystery game called Public Eye which will launch later this year.

Elon Musk recently claimed his AI studio will be able to release a “great” game by the end of 2026 and “Grok will make a movie that is at least watchable before the end of next year and really good movies in 2027”. However the producer of Silent Hill and the boss of Baldur’s Gate 3 are just some of the developers that have criticised the use of AI in the creation of video games. “[The video game industry has] become a game of headless chickens racing to the profit and loss sheet. AI isn’t going to solve that. Those who will succeed are those who are people building something for people.”
