‘The Odyssey’ actor Elliot Page says reuniting with Christopher Nolan post-transition was “a joy”

Elliot Page has discussed the “joy” of reuniting with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey, and what it means to work with the actor as his authentic self.

The actor appeared in Nolan’s 2010 film Inception, playing the part of Ariadne in the seminal science fiction blockbuster. Page transitioned in 2020, and has since forged a career playing male roles such as the character of Sam in Transgender-themed drama Close To You (2023).

The pair will reunite on The Odyssey, an adaptation of the epic poem, with Page playing an as-yet undisclosed role. Speaking at New York Comic Con on a reunion panel for Marvel film X-Men: Days Of Future Past, he discussed what it meant to be working with Nolan again at this point in his life.

“I was so excited to be thought of for [The Odyssey] and to be asked to come back to work with him,” he said (via Variety). “I loved working with him on Inception and loved being a part of that movie. I was just completely jazzed and excited, and [I] basically went and met with Chris and talked about the part, then sat in a room and read the script. It was such a joy to come back.”

Page had previously revealed in his memoir, Pageboy, that he “got sick” due to the gender dysphoria he experienced on the set of Inception. “Despite everyone being delightful to work with, I felt out of place” He wrote. “I did not understand the role I found myself in.”

Speaking at last weekend’s comic con, he revealed The Odyssey found him in a much happier place. “To come back now, as you can imagine, being more comfortable in yourself makes these sorts of projects more enjoyable” he said. “To get to have a Chris Nolan experience again now meant so much to me selfishly.”

The Odyssey is released in cinemas July 16, 2026, with studio Universal selling out opening day screenings a full year before release.

As for Inception, in June Will Smith revealed he turned down the chance to appear in the film, saying he “didn’t get it” at the time, and that it “hurts too bad” to look back at the missed opportunity.
