‘The Lord Of The Rings’ soundtracks get individual vinyl release after box set sells out

Howard Shore’s soundtracks for The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy are set to get individual vinyl releases, following the limited edition 6-LP set selling out in May.

Peter Jackson’s adaptation of the J. R. R Tolkien fantasy epic remains one of the most beloved trilogies in cinema history, with Shore’s soundtrack a big part of what made the movies so memorable. The music for the film won three Academy Awards between them, as well as four Grammys. It was also voted the UK’s favourite film score in 2023.

Now, single editions of the soundtracks for each film will be released on vinyl, available from October 3. In addition to Shore’s compositions, The Fellowship Of The Ring soundtrack features two songs by Enya, ‘May It Be’ and ‘Aníron (Theme for Aragorn and Arwen)’; while The Return Of The King features ‘Into the West’ performed by Annie Lennox.

A press release read: “After the highly sought-after 6LP box set sold out in May, individual vinyl breakouts of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Soundtrack are available exclusively as 2LPs of each film on 180-gram Black vinyl or on Palantir Clear vinyl, available on October 3, at participating retailers”.

“The music for all three films was composed, orchestrated, and conducted by Howard Shore. His music was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, with contributions from two choirs: London Voices and London Oratory School Schola”.

The news comes after the announcement of The Lord Of The Rings anniversary concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall, with The London Philharmonic Orchestra playing Howard Shore’s full score alongside all three films live. The first run through will begin on Thursday April 30 2026, with the second starting on May 9 2026. Find your tickets here.
