The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas has spoken about the potential revival of the series, and what he would expect from adult versions of the characters.
The actor played hopeless romantic Simon in the sitcom from 2008-10, as well as in two movies. Talk of a continuation of the show has circulated for years, but on Sunday (October 12) Variety revealed a deal had been struck that “paves the way” for the show’s return, with the original characters coming back.
Speaking to The Sun, Thomas talked about his feelings regarding coming back. “I feel enormously close to all those people and, obviously, I love spending time with them,” he said. “If there was an opportunity to spend more time with them in any capacity, I’d love that… that’s pretty much all I can say.”
He added: “They’re much more difficult to do than people think, so, honestly, if it was a case of doing more, I do have faith in [creators] Iain [Morris] and Damon [Beesly]. It’s their show, actually. I mean, I’m very much a follow the people person.”
When asked about where he thinks those characters will be, he warned not to expect them to have learned their lesson in adulthood.

“I think wisdom does not make a very good narrative. The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent,” he said. “It’s a show about delusion; Simon is naive and romantic and thinks that he’s going to have this love story; and Will is pompous, he’s intellectually delusional; Neil’s obviously stupid; and Jay’s clearly delusional… he thinks that he’s this kind of sex god when actually he’s just this very vulnerable young man.”
So far, no specific details have emerged about The Inbetweeners comeback, although fans online have expressed concern about returning to a comedy they felt ended at the right time.
