Fans of The Inbetweeners have expressed their doubt about the forthcoming revival of the show, with some questioning whether they can recapture the magic of the original.
The British comedy, about the lives of four misfit teenagers, ran for three seasons between 2008 and 2010. A movie version was released in 2011, followed by a sequel in 2014. Talk of a continuation of the show has circulated for years, but on Sunday (October 12) Variety revealed a deal had been struct that “paves the way” for the show’s return, with the original characters coming back.
The show’s continued popularity has meant many are celebrating the news, however others are questioning whether the show should be brought back after such a long time.
“It’s just not going to hit the same” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter). “Why would you touch something that lived a perfect life and had a perfect burial?”

Another said: “I seem to remember them saying that the characters’ stories were concluded by the end of the 2nd movie and that they wouldn’t really like going back to them. This is weird news.”

That sentiment was echoed by a fan who felt it should have ended sooner than the second movie. “No ffs just let it be” they wrote. “Was an amazing series at the time and the first film should have been the end.” Others called it a “risk” and a “money grab.”

In the past, The Inbetweeners cast members have discussed a reunion, with Simon Bird saying last year that all four stars were “happy” to return but that “it’s up to the writers.” Jay Buckley, who played fan favourite Jay, also said there was no special reason why the show has remained so beloved. “It’s just quite funny – that’s it really” he told NME.
