What’s a Hive Stash?

A Hive Stash, pictured above, is essentially just a new type of chest that is only found in bug-infested areas, and they’re basically like rare blue chests but with added bonuses like a guaranteed boon. In any of the three locations listed above, opening Hive Stashes will anger the local queen–open enough of them while battling the little bugs, and the Queen will pop up for a boss battle.

While these fights are a little more involved than recent ambient NPC boss fights have been, they’re definitely worth the effort to get the medallions and weapons that the bug queens drop when you defeat them. The drops aren’t random–each queen has a specific gun and medallion that it drops.

The queen at Demon’s Debris drops a Mythic OXR Rifle and the Carapace medallion, which gives health siphon on kills and passively recharges your shield up to 50. The queen at The Hive drops the Mythic Wrecker Revolver, which is like a mid-range shotgun, and the Surge medallion, which makes you move faster and gives you an extra burst of speed whenever you slide. And the queen at Ranger’s Ruin drops the Mythic Tactical Shotgun and the Springleg medallion, which lets you double jump and negates fall damage.

It’s hard to say right now if any of these medallions is as overpowered as the loot island medallion from last season, but they’ll definitely give you a big leg up even so.

The bug queens and the Hive Stashes are just a small part of a massive new season update, which includes a new season of Fortnite OG and a fresh Lego Pass.
