Fans of Mel Brooks’ legendary space spoof can finally rejoice — the Spaceballs sequel is officially in the works. Nearly 40 years after the 1987 classic took aim at Star Wars and every other sci-fi franchise, Amazon MGM Studios is reviving the galaxy’s funniest parody for a whole new generation. This long-awaited follow-up brings back much of the original cast, adds fresh comedic talent, and promises a new round of Schwartz-powered chaos.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first look at the upcoming Spaceballs sequel, sharing a photo from the cast table read that sent fans into hyperspace. The image shows original cast members sitting alongside fresh new faces, promising an intergalactic blend of nostalgia and modern comedy.

Rick Moranis is officially back as Dark Helmet, marking a rare return to the big screen after years away from acting. Mel Brooks is reprising his dual roles as President Skroob and Yogurt, while Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Wyner return to round out the familiar crew.

New additions to the Spaceballs universe include Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan. Together, they’ll help deliver what the studio calls “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” Plot details remain under tight wraps, but fans can expect the same signature satire and fourth-wall-breaking humor that made the 1987 original a cult classic.
Release Date
Directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) with a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, the Spaceballs sequel is currently in production. The film is set to “hyperspace into theaters” in 2027, perfectly timed to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the original film’s release.
