‘South Park’ “sucks” because of all the “political shit”, claims new episode

South Park‘s latest episode has poked fun at the show itself and its recent political storylines.

The animated series has taken aim at the political climate in the US in the past two seasons, with Donald Trump depicted to be in a relationship with Satan and having a micro penis, and making a parody of figures such as United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Chair of the Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr.

The Halloween episode, titled ‘The Woman in the Hat’, saw Stan take aim at the show itself, saying: “South Park sucks now because of all of this political shit.”

However, he then creates a cryptocurrency called South Park Sucks and gets Kyle’s cousin to ask Trump for protection around the scheme. The episode also sees the US president hold a seance with Attorney General Pam Bondi to rid the White House of a ‘ghost’ – aka wife Melania.

Back in July, South Park‘s creators reacted to the White House’s scathing response to its depiction of Trump, in which a spokesperson said: “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention.”

In response, Trey Parker said at San Diego Comic-Con with a deadpan stare: “We’re terribly sorry.”

The animated series also attracted controversy after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September, with supporters arguing a previous depiction of him created hostility to conservatives and had links to murder. While the episode was removed, an executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show called for it to be reinstated, saying Kirk “loved that he was featured” on the series.

Meanwhile, a recent episode of the show nodded to the slang “67” trend, and the ‘official 6-7 kid’ – who went viral for shouting the phrase at basketball games – has gone viral again for his reaction to the South Park episode.
