Snoop Dogg has released a children’s song in support of LGBTQ+ people, following backlash over his comments about lesbian representation in a Disney film.

‘Love Is Love’ was released in collaboration with former The Voice contestant Jeremy Beloate, who was featured in the latest episode of Snoop’s animated children’s YouTube series, Doggyland.
It comes in partnership with advocacy group GLAAD to celebrate Spirit Day (October 16), an annual initiative that harnesses influential voices to stand against the bullying of LGBTQ+ youth and families.
GLAAD shared a conversation between Snoop and Beloate about the track. “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is,” Snoop said in the clip. “Being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers — whatever it is, love is the key.”
He went on to say of the song: “It’s teaching parenthood. It’s teaching situations that kids in the world is going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live.
“And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding,” he continued. “These are things that kids have questions about, so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love.”

The track is geared towards children and was specifically written to be part of the Doggyland episode, which sees Beloate make a special appearance as a puppy named Zippy while Snoop voices his regular character Bow Wizzle.
“Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change,” the characters sing. “Families are special / They are so unique / Everybody’s got a purpose, more than what you see / We love you, parents / We love you so.”
It comes after the rapper recently made headlines for his appearance on It’s Giving podcast, which saw him recall taking his grandson to watch the 2022 film Lightyear and being stumped after being asked about the same-sex couple that featured in it.
The Toy Story spin-off film was banned in 14 countries over a scene that saw Buzz’s best friend and commander, Alisha Hawthorne, briefly share a kiss with her wife, Kiko.
Explaining how the scene prompted questions from his grandsons, Snoop shared on the podcast: “They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman’. Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”
“I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” the rapper added, adding that the moment “fucked me up”.
“I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for… It threw me for a loop.”
The scene involving the kiss had originally been cut by Disney, but was reinstated after Pixar animators penned an open letter criticising the company for censoring “overtly gay affection” in its films.
The first lesbian character to be introduced in a Pixar film was seen in 2020’s Onward.
Last year, Disney removed a transgender storyline from the Pixar animated coming-of-age series Win Or Lose. Chanel Stewart, who plays the character in question, said she was “very disheartened” by the decision. “From the moment I got the script, I was excited to share my journey to help empower other trans youth. I knew this would be a very important conversation. Trans stories matter, and they deserve to be heard,” Stewart said.
