Bloober Team, the studio behind last year’s ace Silent Hill 2 Remake, has confirmed they’re now working on a remake of the original Silent Hill.
Japanese horror game Silent Hill was released in 1999 and follows Harry Mason searching for his missing adopted daughter in the fictional American town of Silent Hill before coming across a cult trying to revive an ancient deity they worship. The psychological horror is regarded as one of the best games ever made and spawned a number of sequels, spin-offs and adaptations. A reimagined version of Silent Hill (Shattered Memories) was released in 2009 and now a full-blown remake has been confirmed.
Bloober Team announced the Silent Hill remake has entered “full production” after teasing the project earlier this year. The news came as part of a recent shareholder meeting, which also confirmed the studio is currently working on an unannounced second game alongside the Silent Hill remake.
“We have two first-party production teams, one of which is working on Silent Hill 1, and the other has begun work on a second project. The second-party team is currently working on five projects,” explained Bloober management (via Insider Gaming).

Speaking about their approach to the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team’s chief marketing officer Anna Jasińska said the developers would “not be straying away” from the original and would be taking a “very safe approach” to remaking the game.
“We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernised Silent Hill 2,” she continued. “Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us ‘missing the point’ while we’re livening up the title. We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up.” The result was a remake that was praised by fans and critics.

“Bloober promised a ‘safe’ remake that respected the legacy of Silent Hill 2, and they’ve delivered a game that takes its iconic horror to new places, without unnecessary baggage or cheap shocks,” reads the four-star NME review. “Instead, their version of Silent Hill 2 is stretched to expand on the dread while the nightmarish town has never looked more beautifully terrifying. It’s a terrifyingly faithful reimagining that’ll scare veterans and newcomers alike.”
Next year will see the release of a Silent Hill 2 movie adaptation that’s already being panned by fans after a cheesy trailer was shared last month.
In other news, the launch times for Ghost Of Yōtei have been announced, with gamers in the UK and Europe able to play the long-awaited sequel before fans in North America.
