Ricky Gervais has shared that he has no intention of returning to host the Golden Globes.
The actor and comedian presented the awards across three consecutive years in 2010, 2011, 2012, and then returned in 2016 and 2020.
That final appearance saw him go viral for his nonchalant approach, opening the 77th edition by immediately disclosing that it would be “the last time” he would say yes to the role, and adding: “I don’t care anymore… I’m joking, I never did.”
He would also make swipes at James Corden, Leonardo DiCaprio, Judi Dench and more throughout the night, as well as call out the lack of diversity between the nominees, highlight instances of abuse in Hollywood, and criticise virtue signalling actors for wanting to “lecture the public” with their acceptance speeches.
Now, Gervais has looked back at his time hosting in 2020, and doubled down on his claims that he will not be returning to host the awards ceremony.
A fan page for Gervais took to X/Twitter to share a clip from his fifth and final time presenting, and shared it with the caption: “Repost if you wish @rickygervais would host another awards show”.
Resharing the post, The Office creator simply wrote: “Nah, Fuck that”, along with a crying laughing emoji.

While it appears that the After Life star and creator has no intention of taking on hosting duties again, he did make a comment about the 2025 instalment at the start of the year, and shared what jokes he would have said if he had returned to the role.
“Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday,” he wrote on X. “It’s been a pretty good year for material.”
“Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world,” he wrote.
He then added that he would have poked fun at Justin Timberlake for being arrested for driving under the influence. “Justin Timberlake was convicted of Drink Driving. If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words ‘Sexy Back’ a lot more often,” he wrote.
This year’s show took place on January 5, with comedian Nikki Glaser filling the presenting role – the first female host in the 82-year history of the Globes.
Gervais is currently on his Mortality tour around the UK, with the final run of dates set to take place in November and December. Find the full list of dates here and find any remaining tickets here.
The comedian made a nod to his famous opening speech at the 2020 Golden Globes earlier this year too, reposting a section from the speech on X in which he rebuked award winners who discuss politics in their victory speeches.
The post – which was then taken down by Gervais – appeared to be in response to comments in solidarity with the people of Palestine, made by actors including Hannah Einbinder and Javier Bardem at the Emmy Awards ceremony on September 14.
Einbinder and Bardem were among thousands of people in the film industry – including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Tilda Swinton – who signed the Film Workers for Palestine Pledge agreeing not to work with Israeli film companies.
