The official Resident Evil brand account has shared a bizarre Duolingo crossover that’s baffling horror fans.
The @REBHPortal X account is part of Capcom’s ongoing Resident Evil Ambassador program, which encourages fans to share their enthusiasm for the long-running horror series with fans around the world.
Earlier this week though, the account started an odd series of exchanges with the Japanese Duolingo account. First up was a reworked image from Resident Evil that sees a hulking version of the Duolingo’s owl mascot standing in front of its master. “Our new biological weapon. Go. Spread language learning to the world,” read the accompanying caption.
The Duolingo account then replied with a picture of their owl mascot replacing the sinister Mr. X in Resident Evil 2, standing just behind everyone’s favourite zombie killer Leon. “Leon, you haven’t done today’s lesson, right?”

Resident Evil shared an image of Leon using Duolingo to learn Spanish, a nod to Resident Evil 4 which saw Leon heading to rural Spain to rescue the president’s daughter, before Duolingo replied with the monstrous owl standing in front of a burning police station in Racoon City. “I’ll chase you anywhere until everyone can play Resident Evil in English,” reads the accompanying threat.

Following the weird exchange, the REBHPortal account has gone back to making fun of the hot weather in Japan with while the Japanese Duolingo account revealed a DNA test that proved it’s not 100 per cent owl.

Despite a lot of fans loving the unexpected crossover, it’s unlikely that the Duolingo owl will appear in the next Resident Evil game.
Resident Evil Requiem is due to launch at some point next year and usher in “a new era of survival horror”. The single-player adventure will see players take control of new protagonist Grace Ashcroft as they return to Racoon City, 30 years after the events of Resident Evil 2.
Resident Evil 9 was originally going to be an open-world, online multiplayer title but that was scrapped. “Although we had some interesting concepts, we realised that it wasn’t what fans wanted to see or play. So we went back to the drawing board and created what led to Resident Evil Requiem,” explained Director Koshi Nakanishi.
Meanwhile director Zach Cregger has warned gamers they might hate his Resident Evil film adaptation. “I am a gigantic Resident Evil game fan. I’ve played them all,” he explained but won’t be sticking faithfully to the lore. “I’m trying to tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games. I don’t think I’m breaking any major rules, but I also recognise that no matter what I do, people are going to come for me online.”
In other news, Microsoft has confirmed the next wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass this month including a modern Assassin’s Creed classic.
