Resident Evil Requiem Trailer Explores The Backstory Of New Heroine Grace Ashcroft

Today during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Capcom debuted a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, which gave a brief look at protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s origin story–as well as a look at her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, a journalist who appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak way back in 2003.

The trailer begins with Grace and Alyssa in a hotel room, where Grace receives a phone call; the man on the phone asks for her, then immediately hangs up. Suddenly, the lights of the entire hotel go out, and things spiral from there.

Eventually, the two women find the hotel manager, who begins to apologize for the power outage and says he’ll fix it immediately. Suddenly, the man is attacked by a hooded figure–who also happens to have pale white skin resembling the undead or the zealots of Resident Evil 4–with a plastic bag, sending the Ashfords running for their lives. Grace walks ahead of her mother, and when she turns to say something, she screams … and the trailer ends.

The trailer provided a little more information about Grace, who was the playable character in the hands-on preview Capcom showed off when it announced Resident Evil Requiem in June. The reveal trailer for Resident Evil Requiem found Grace as an FBI analyst years after her mother’s death, so this look at the game fills in some of those gaps.

This was one of many trailers to debut during Gamescom Opening Night Live, which also featured updates for The Outer Worlds 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Silent Hill F. Among the newly-announced games at the event were Lords of the Fallen 2, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the follow-up to Black Myth: Wukong from Game Science.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch February 27, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
