Rainn Wilson and family evacuated from home during Oregon wildfire

The Office star Rainn Wilson has spoken out about climate change after being evacuated from his home in Oregon.

The central part of the state had been dealing with “The Flat Fire” since last week (August 21), and according to Central Oregon Fire Info the blaze has burned through 23,380 acres, prompting an evacuation order for those at risk. This included Wilson, who took to Instagram to discuss his situation.

In the video, he said: “Hey guys, here’s a fun fact. I have just undergone, along with my wife, Holiday Reinhorn, and family, an evacuation from our Oregon Mountain cabin. This is our fourth evacuation over the last six years. As you know, the last time we evacuated, we lost about half of our house in the fires that tore through the Los Angeles area late last year.”

The star would go on to explain the record temperatures and wildfires on the West Coast are due to climate change, mocking climate deniers and asking: “For God’s sake, for the planet’s sake, let’s do something for our great-great-grandchildren and simply limit CO2 and other heat-trapping gases and plant trees and create clean air. Is that too much to ask? I love you all.”

Underneath the video, the actor wrote in a caption: “4th Evacuation in 6 years, folks. Vulcan, the God of Fire must have it out for me! Actually – soaring heat waves and extreme weather drought and floods are the culprit. But DO NOT BELIEVE A STUPID ACTOR that heat trapping gases released by humans have anything to do with it. Believe (pre-trump) NASA. If you like the science they used to get us to the moon, you’ll LOVE their climate science research!”

Rainn Wilson is best known for playing Dwight Schrute in the American version of The Office, but in the past has said he was “mostly unhappy” making the show, and said he wished he would be remembered for another role he played.
