Primal Scream praise The Only Ones’ Peter Perrett after arrest at Palestine Action demonstration in London

Primal Scream have paid tribute to The Only Ones’ Peter Perrett after he was arrested at a Palestine Action demonstration in London.

As reported by The Guardian, a total of 532 people were arrested at the huge protest in central London on Saturday (August 9). The demonstration was organised by the campaign group Defend Our Juries and featured widespread support of Palestine Action, a direct action organisation that has been proscribed as a terrorist group by the UK government.

A majority of those arrested were believed to have displayed items in support of the group, and among them was Perrett, the former frontman and guitarist of the London punk band The Only Ones, best known for their classic 1978 single ‘Another Girl, Another Planet’.

The group’s proscription under the Terrorism Act 2000 means membership or public support for the group is classified as a criminal offence and could result in up to 14 years in jail.

Writing on Instagram on Sunday (August 10), Primal Scream said: “Very proud of our dear friend @peterperrett for being one of the 474 people arrested yesterday in Parliament Square demonstrating against the genocide in Gaza and the non violent protest group Palestine Action being proscribed as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by Keir Starmer’s weak and unimaginative Labour Government.”

“A blind man in a wheelchair and an old lady in her 90’s, doctors, nurses, architects & a lady priest were also amongst those arrested yesterday under this absurd and repressive law,” they added.

Others to have voiced their support for Palestine Action include Kneecap, who showed solidarity with the group during their controversial set at Glastonbury 2025 that saw them briefly investigated by Avon and Somerset Police.

Roger Waters has also publicly supported Palestine Action, describing them as a “great organisation” that were “nonviolent” and “absolutely not terrorists in any way”.

“Parliament has been corrupted by agents of a genocidal foreign power,” the former Pink Floyd singer added. “Stand up and be counted. It’s now. This is the moment. I am Spartacus.”

Perrett released his third solo album ‘The Cleansing’ last year, which featured appearances from Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, as well as Johnny Marr, Fontaines D.C.’s Carlos O’Connell and Dream Wife guitarist Alice Go.

As for Primal Scream, they were among those urging Keir Starmer to “end UK complicity” in Gaza in May, demanding all UK arms sales to Israel are immediately suspended. They will also play as part of the ‘Gig For Gaza’ in London in October, alongside Paul Weller, Inhaler and others.
