It’s been less than a month since the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and The Pokemon Company is already detailing what’s in the game’s paid DLC expansion, titled Mega Dimension. It’s due for release on December 10, the company announced today.
Through the powers of the Mythical Pokemon Hoopa, you’ll enter portals and explore an alternate “Hyperspace” version of the game’s setting of Lumiose City. It basically looks like normal Lumiose, but everything is chrome. This version of the city is populated with Pokemon not seen in the base game, including Alolan and Galarian variants of Pokemon from previous titles.
Even if you leveled out your party in Legends: Z-A, expect wild Pokemon in Hyperspace Lumiose to provide a challenge in battles–some of them even exceed level 100 with “hyperspace levels.”
A new ally named Ansha debuts in Mega Dimension, and by providing her with berries, she’ll bake donuts to feed to Hoopa, allowing it to open portals to new areas in Hyperspace Lumiose. Bringing back berries from Hyperspace will yield even more powerful donuts that should give you an edge against those tough over-leveled Pokemon.
Fans of Pokemon X and Y should be happy to see the character Korrina return–the former gym leader is now described as “a successor to a line of Mega Evolution gurus determined to encounter every Mega-Evolved Pokemon,” evident by her colorful and garish new costume that has her covered in Mega Stones.
New Mega Evolutions debut in the DLC, including the previously announced Mega Raichu X and Y. Also debuting are Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur, though the latter’s Mega Stone is only available as a reward for the online multiplayer Z-A Battle Club mode. Hopefully, recent changes to the ranked mode will make that Mega Stone quick to obtain.
Speaking of Mega Stones, there’s a new one you can obtain starting today. Through the Mystery Gift feature, you can get a Diancite Stone. Claiming it will let you start a side mission called “Shine Bright like a Gemstone,” in which you can get the Mythical Pokemon Diancie and Mega Evolve it.
Fans online were a bit irked that the Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC was announced before the game was even released (which isn’t an unusual practice from gaming companies), but the game looks like it’s getting a good mix of both free and paid content in the near future. GameSpot’s Pokemon Legends Z-A review gave the game a 7/10, calling, calling it “a fitting end to the Switch 1-era Pokemon games.”
