Pedro Pascal has said he disliked his clean-shaven look in Wonder Woman 1984 so much that he has had facial hair ever since.

The Last of Us actor is promoting his new Marvel blockbuster The Fantastic Four: First Steps, in which he plays Reed Richards aka Mr Fantastic. He has a small beard for the film, the first movie incarnation of the character to do so, and according to a new interview that was intentional on his part.

Pascal was taking part in LadBible’s Agree To Disagree video series, where he debated certain questions with Fantastic Four co-star Vanessa Kirby. One question that came up was “which is sexier: moustaches or beards?” This prompted a passionate response from the actor, who has had facial hair for most of his roles, with one exception.

“I grow such shit facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very (awful). Strongly disagree with a clean shaven me,” said. “I was so appalled by the way I look in Wonder Woman 1984. I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never have gone back unless it were completely necessary. If they asked me to be clean shave for Fantastic Four and insisted then I would’ve done it. But it was a very collaborative creation for all of our looks in the movie”.

In the 2020 sequel, he played villain Maxwell Lord, a businessman who gains the power of the Dreamstone, which grants wishes. The film was a critical and commercial disappointment, with star Gal Gadot only returning in cameo roles until the resetting of the DC Universe.
