Peacemaker season two has come to an end, but does Chris Smith get his release from prison? Find out below.
The John Cena-driven superhero series began as a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, which was part of the DC Extended Universe at the time. The first season aired in early 2022 and followed the jingoistic mercenary Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker.
Since then, the new incarnation of DC Studios has launched, with James Gunn at the head, and the new DC Universe opened with Gunn’s Superman earlier this summer.
Peacemaker season two is the first live action television series in the DC Universe, with episodes having aired weekly on HBO Max in the US. The season finale drops on Thursday (October 9). In the UK, episodes have been airing the following day on Sky Max and NOW.
Alongside Cena are returning stars Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick, as well as newcomers Michael Rooker, Frank Grillo and David Denman.

At the start of the eighth and final episode of season two of Peacemaker, Cena’s Chris Smith is stuck in custody, with the rest of his gang in a bad place.
However, Ads and Vigilante manage to bail him out of prison, and Chris and Eagly flee to a motel. Initially hidden from the rest of the gang, they manage to track him down, and in a touching moment, they reconcile, with Ads urging him to believe that the reason people have been dying around him is that he has not been true to himself.
“I know who I am because of you and when I’m around you, I feel loved,” she tells him. “You’re big and you’re stupid but I know you love me and I don’t know if I can say that about anyone else in the world.”
Emilia also informs him that their date was as meaningful to her as it was to him, and it briefly appears that the gang will finish the season on a high. We see the new organisation they have formed is called Checkmate, which is now expected to play a major role in the DCU moving forward.
However, Chris may not be a part of it. At the finale of the episode, Flag kidnaps him and throws him through the interdimensional door and trapping him in the alternate universe Salvation, as revenge for Chris killing Flag’s son in The Suicide Squad.
There is currently no confirmation of any third season for Peacemaker, with James Gunn having suggested that while the characters will remain relevant, it may be in other shows and films than in the Peacemaker universe. If that is the case, the show’s hero really did end in the worst place of all.
