‘Peacemaker’ fans criticise “Nothing Burger” finale: “That’s it?”

Spoilers for the finale of ‘Peacemaker’ season two ahead

Fans of the DC show Peacemaker have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about the lack of big moments in the final episode of season two.

The eighth and final episode, Full Nelson, sees Chris aka Peacemaker (John Cena) in prison, cutting himself off from his allies The 11th Street Kids, believing he is a curse to everyone around him. The Kids bail him out and try to convince him he isn’t the monster he thinks he is.

Meanwhile, government agency A.R.G.U.S. searches for parallel worlds using the Quantum Chamber, only to find one that Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) believes will make a suitable prison for Metahumans named Salvation. Just as Chris/Peacemaker believes he is back on track, starting a new organisation named Checkmate, he is abducted and becomes the first prison of Salvation.

Despite the multiverse twists and connections to the forthcoming Superman follow up Man Of Tomorrow, fans felt the episode was not impactful enough as a finale.

One fan tweeted “Peacemaker S2 finale” with a picture of a ‘Nothing Burger’, a saying for something that lacks significance. Another posted a meme with that caption: “That’s it?”

One viewer turned their attention to DC Universe chief and Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn, writing: “James Gunn spent the entire press tour hyping up this finale only for it to be the most nothing burger episode ever”. Others called it “just a long music video” and “an hour of nothing and filler.”

One fan went into further detail about the episode, writing: “I’m not disappointed in the #Peacemaker finale because I expected a million cameos. It just didn’t really land for me. It had plenty of great emotional moments, but a lot of it moved too slowly and just felt out of place. It wasn’t *bad* by any means. Just… not my favourite.”

While there has been no confirmation of a third season of the show, which started as part of the previous DC Extended Universe timeline before being integrated into the new DC Universe continuity. However, James Gunn has suggested that the show’s key characters will have a presence in the universe moving forward.

In September, video game Fortnite temporarily banned the Peacemaker emote Peaceful Hips following a revelation in a season two episode.
