Paul Mescal has discussed feeling protective about his relationship with singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, describing it as “deeply precious” to him.
The Irish actor, who was announced to be playing Paul McCartney in a forthcoming series of biopics about The Beatles, seemingly went public with his relationship when the ‘That’s So True’ singer posted an image of them together at Glastonbury on her Instagram account in July. The artist has shared several pictures of them together since then.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Mescal, who is currently promoting new film The History Of Sound, was asked whether there was a particular moment that made the pair decide to show the world that they were an item.
“I don’t know how to answer that,” he said. “I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to.… This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.”
Mescal was previously in a relationship with another singer, Phoebe Bridgers, from 2020 to 2022. He appeared in Bridgers’ music video for ‘Savior Complex’, and provided backing vocals for Bridgers’ cover of The Handsome Family’s ‘So Much Wine.’

Recently, Mescal revealed he would be doing his own singing when he plays McCartney, and discussed spending time with the legend in preparation for the role. “He’s an extraordinary man,” he told IndieWire, “like to spend any time – it’s a crazy sentence to say that I’ve spent time with that man, let alone play him.”
Elsewhere, Gracie Adams covered Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’ at a recent concert in Los Angeles, telling the crowd: “It just is not lost on me that the reason that a lot of us know each other is because I got to meet many of you through doing the Eras Tour.”
