Octopath Traveler 0 Preorders Include Helpful In-Game Items

Square Enix announced that Octopath Traveler 0, a new entry in the Octopath series, will launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 4. The new RPG takes story and gameplay elements from the smartphone game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, retooled into a new standalone, offline single-player title, giving fans a new way to experience the narrative. Preorders for the game are available now, and there are multiple versions up for grabs–including a $50 standard edition you can grab at Amazon and Best Buy. There’s also a $70 Digital Deluxe Edition and a massive $230 Collector’s Edition available exclusively through Square Enix’s online store. All three editions also include preorder bonuses for securing your copy ahead of time. Check out full details on all versions of the game below.

Octopath Traveller 0 is the third game in the Octopath Traveler series, and as the 0 in the title implies, it’s positioned as the earliest story in the series’s in-universe chronology. Those who played the first two games in the series will recognize the Octopath Traveler 0’s HD-2D graphics style and turn-based combat system, which expands the number of characters in your party to eight–rather than the four-character combat parties compared to the previous games. Octopath Traveler 0 also introduces a new town-building system where players rebuild their home village after it’s destroyed in the opening of the story.

If you haven’t played the first two games in the series, you can pick up physical copies of Octopath Traveler on Switch for $50, while Octopath Traveler II is available on Switch, PS5, and PS4. The PS4 release includes a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Meanwhile, fans who want to explore the series’s charming fantasy world can check out The Art of Octopath Traveler art book, which features art from throughout the entire series, including sections on the Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent mobile game, in case you want a sneak peek at the characters and story of Octopath Traveler 0. Dark Horse also published a strategy for the first game, Octopath Traveler: The Complete Guide, which features a complete walkthrough and full explanations of the game’s various mechanics, plus tons of art and lore.

Octopath Traveler 0 isn’t the only big new game coming soon from Square Enix. Octopath Traveler 0 was also revealed alongside a new HD-2D action RPG, Elliot: The Millennium Tales, during the July 31 Nintendo Partner Showcase. While it’s not available for preorder yet, players can grab a demo if they want to check out the new adventure.

Square Enix is also launching several remakes and remasters in the coming weeks, starting with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, which is a ground-up overhaul of the PS1 original launching for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam on September 30. A few weeks later, fans of classic turn-based RPGs can look forward to the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which launches on PC and consoles on, Preorders for all these games are available now. It’s worth noting that the Switch 2 Editions for all these games are, once again, Game-Key Card releases. However, unlike Octopath Traveler 0, you will be able to upgrade the Switch 1 versions of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles–though Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will not.

Along with these upcoming games, Switch 2 Edition upgrades are now available for two other recently released remakes of classic Square Enix Games–including a free Switch 2 patch for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, and a $10 upgrade pack for Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.
