Today, during the Nintendo Direct livestream, Atari, Digital Eclipse, and NetherRealm Studios announced that the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection will release digitally on consoles and PC on October 30–nearly two months before its physical release date of December 12.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection takes Digital Eclipse’s “interactive documentary” approach–previously seen in games like Atari 50 and The Making of Karateka–and applies it to the tenured fighting game franchise, with interviews from co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias.
The full collection contains 11 standalone Mortal Kombat games, including multiple arcade, console, and handheld versions. The full list of included games is below:
- Mortal Kombat (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
- Mortal Kombat II (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X)
- Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, WaveNet Arcade, SNES)
- Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PlayStation)

- Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (PlayStation)

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection launches digitally October 30 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Preorders are available now for physical versions of the game–which launch December 12–while preorders for PC and all consoles expect Switch will begin September 15.
Today’s Nintendo Direct also featured news on the company’s plans for the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebration, which included multiple game announcements and a first look at the next theatrical release, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Key Switch 2 releases–including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Hades 2, and Final Fantasy VII Intergrade–also received solid release dates, while new entries in the Fire Emblem and Pokemon franchises were also unveiled.
