Machine Gun Kelly has spoken about his recent collaboration with Bob Dylan, and said that he has “no idea” how it came together.
It was first suspected that the two had joined forces in June, when the rapper-turned-rocker shared a teaser video for his upcoming LP ‘Lost Americana’ – which is set for release on August 8.
In the clip, a voice thought to be Dylan’s was heard calling the upcoming album “a personal excavation of the American dream”, but it wasn’t confirmed to be the songwriting legend until later.
MGK would then confirm the cameo during an interview on Today, quipping that it came out of “pure desperation” and him “just knocking on [Dylan’s] door relentlessly, not going away”.
Now, he has made an appearance on The Tonight Show and told Jimmy Fallon more about how the partnership came about.
“Well, to be honest, I don’t want to mess my friendship up,” MGK responded when asked if he was friends with the music icon, giving his best Dylan impersonation.

“To be honest, I have no idea how he even knows who I am to this day,” he then admitted. “And I’m pretty sure that if I say the wrong thing, I’ll mess it all up, so I’ll just shut up and accept whatever Bob Dylan throws my way.”
He then went on to further share his disbelief that Bob Dylan had agreed to work with him to promote the new record. “Something’s going on in the stars where, like, good things keep happening… I don’t know how it keeps happening,” he shared.
“Then Bob Dylan, who’s the king of just getting all the outside noise out and trusting what’s within stamps… I don’t know, I feel like he’s just in on some giant cosmic joke.”
The correlation between Dylan and MGK follows Dylan leaving some fans confused earlier this year when he shared footage of the rap/rock singer performing live on Instagram. It came as a surprise, as, for the most part, the music veteran’s social media page has only seen posts relating to his upcoming live shows and an assortment of clips from old movies.
In the footage, MGK was seen performing an acoustic set at the Park Ave CDs store in Orlando, Florida. There don’t seem to be any ties in the set to Dylan, and with no caption included, it never became quite clear why it was uploaded.
Later, the two musicians finally met during the LA stop of Willie Nelson’s ‘Outlaw Music Festival Tour’, where MGK made an appearance onstage with Billie Strings, John Stamos, and Johnny Knoxville.
As for other MGK news, the artist made headlines when he and Megan Fox revealed the name of their baby daughter, following some confusion from fans.
For Dylan, the collaboration with MGK comes around the same time as him announcing a string of UK and Ireland dates for his ongoing ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways’ tour, set to take place in November.
