Megan Fox was the next big thing. It helped that she had an alluring look that Hollywood craved. Her look got her early roles on the TV series Ocean Ave and Hope & Faith. But her big break came when Michael Bay cast her as Mikaela Barnes in the blockbuster Transformers. Fox recently made news for the wrong reasons but where is her “star” as it relates to Hollywood? And though she’s been among the most active Instagram users, she took a break recently before returning in a big way.

Megan Fox has been one of the most prolific Instagram users over the last few years, using the platform to promote fashion lines, appearances, and how things are going with her relationship. She has one of the biggest accounts out there with 20.6 million followers, a number that’s only still growing.

And though she had a steady feed going, there was an almost two-month break on her account with no posts since August 1st. Then she dropped the above Instagram bomb on followers, a roller disco theme from the actress that, of course, had folks more than a little excited.

At the time of this writing, the Megan Fox post 3.5 million likes on the platform a healthy number even for her account. Her previous post topped 4.3 million likes, aided in part by the inclusion of Kim Kardashian in the picture. The latter, of course, is one of the biggest social media influencers out there.

Throughout her career she’s made the most of the platform. But up until this point, it’s been a long and winding road for the actress. Let’s start with some of the social media controversies and dustups for the actress.

With cultural norms changing filmmaker Michael Bay has begun taking heat for the work he did in the past. In particular, he’s been under attack for the way he shot Megan Fox while she was still underage. For instance, in a six-second scene in Bad Boys II he had a then 15-year-old Megan Fox in a bikini having water poured over her.

Here’s the blink and you’ll miss it scene from Bad Boys II

Megan, however, has begun coming to Michael Bay’s defense. Recently she had this to say about what’s happening to Michael Bay…

“It’s not something I’ve been longing to speak out on. But I don’t agree with cancel culture, and I don’t want people to get ‘canceled’ for something they didn’t do. While some of my working relationships were very challenging, that one specifically wasn’t one where I was sexually harassed or suffered, so I felt like I needed to defend him and clarify that. I have plenty of stories, but they don’t involve Michael. I really appreciated the support coming from people, but I also didn’t want to live with something that wasn’t the full truth.”

Previously she has tried to clear up what happened on the Bad Boys II set with this Instagram post…

Michael Bay has also taken heat for the way Megan Fox was sexualized in the Transformers movies. Megan is there for him on that too. She said:

“I don’t think there’s anything particular lascivious about how I was shot in Transformers. I don’t remember anything even that provocative; it was all pretty high-school innocent. I didn’t feel objectified when I was filming it, and I think that’s the point, right? It’s how you feel when you’re shooting it, not how you feel when you’re watching it and I never felt compromised in any of those ways. So for me, it’s not something that I regret, and I don’t think it’s something that needs to be changed. When I watch it now, I don’t have any sort of negative reaction at all.”

The hashtag #CancelJimmyKimmel began trending recently when elements of his past that people deem offensive began to surface. Among the many things activists attacked him for was this video from 2018 in which he appeared to be laughing at a story Megan Fox told on his show, in which she appeared to be revealing that Michael Bay sexualized her while she was underage.

Megan Fox has responded to the attacks on Jimmy Kimmel and says that people have the story all wrong. Megan explains…

“I did ‘work’ (me pretending to know how to hold a wrench) on one of Michael’s Ferrarri’s during one of the audition scenes. It was at the Platinum Dunes studio parking lot, there were several crew members and employees present and I was at no point undressed or anything similar. So as far as this particular audition story I was not underaged at the time and I was not made to ‘wash or work on someone’s cars in a way that was extraneous from the material in the actual script. I hope whatever opinions are formed around these episodes will at least be seeded in the facts of the events.”

Michael Bay has now backed her up, re-sharing her statement on Instagram and praising Megan Fox, as you can see below…

When she was 34-year-old, rumors swirled about Megan Fox’s relationship with singer Machine Gun Kelly as she was featured heavily in his music video Bloody Valentine.

So how the heck did Megan Fox end up in her underwear for a Machine Gun Kelly music video? Well, it started when the pair ended up in a movie called Midnight in the Switchgrass. It’s still filming and it also stars Bruce Willis and Emile Hirsch among others.

When Midnight in the Switchgrass director Randall Emmett was asked about how the unlikely pair connected he said to CINEMABLEND, “Because when you were on a movie set, we’re shooting 14-hour days. That cast is five of us and everybody is friendly but nobody has any time to… It’s more like, in between takes while sitting around talking about our kids. Everybody has got kids, so everybody is talking about their kids.

Though there have been rumors that Megan’s relationship were what caused her split from husband Bryan Austin Green, according to Emmett the two only became “friends” and MGK asked her to do his video. And now a newly single Megan Fox is on screen in her underwear, for your enjoyment.

Celebrities trend on Twitter all the time, for a variety of reasons. Most of the time it’s because they’ve done something to offend Twitter’s PC police or just because people like them. But on May 22, 2020, Megan Fox started trending for maybe the strangest reason of all time… people have decided to start pretending she’s Filipino.

It’s unclear where it started but the hashtag #meganfoxisfilipino is all the rage and has resulted in people posting photos like this…

And telling fake stories like this one…

For the record Megan Fox is definitely not Filipino, but for some reason the world has suddenly found it very funny to pretend she is.

Before all of this though there was how Megan Fox got her start in Hollywood and what kept her career going through all these years.

Megan Fox hit it out of the park with the 2007 film Transformers. Her co-starring role with Shia LaBeouf put her face (as well as her body) on the map and it looked like Fox was going to run roughshod all over Hollywood.

Transformers was such a hit that a sequel was in order. She reprised her role, along with LaBeouf, and it too was a smash. Fans may not have liked Bay’s direction on the two movies, but for Fox, she more than held her own in the two movies.

Before Fox signed on for a third Transformers movie, she jumped into Diablo Cody’s horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body and then DC’s Jonah Hex. With Jennifer’s Body, Fox was looking to cash in on her rising star by playing up her assets. It didn’t go over well as the movie flopped.

Hoping that was a one-time misstep, she moved on to the comic book film, Jonah Hex. Again, another HUGE flop and things began to nosedive for Fox and her career. Then came the third Transformers movie.

Megan Fox was signed on to once again star as LeBeouf’s girlfriend in the third Transformer movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. She even had gone as far as showing up for rehearsals. However, people close to the production claim her heart wasn’t in it.

Ehren Kruger told GQ in an interview that although Megan Fox showed up for rehearsals, “she seemed like an actress who didn’t want to be a part of it. She was saying she wanted to, but she wasn’t acting like it.” But it was her comments made before production began on the third movie that got her into hot water and eventually fired from the film.

As production was about to start on the third Transformers movie, Fox was interviewed by a British magazine, Wonderland, where she shared her thoughts on director Michael Bay. She said:

“He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous madman reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him. He’s vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set he’s a tyrant. Shia (Labeouf) and I almost die when we make a Transformers movie. He has you do some really insane things that insurance would never let you do.”

Somehow, Michael Bay still wanted to continue on with Megan Fox. He looked past her Hitler comparison and was ready to move forward. But there was one big dissenting voice and that voice was the bog boss, Steven Spielberg.

After Megan Fox’s “Hitler” referencing interview was published, the cast was brought in for rehearsals. But now Bay noticed Fox’s heart wasn’t into it. He told GQ that Fox “was in a different world, on her BlackBerry. You gotta stay focused. And you know, the Hitler thing. Steven said, ‘Fire her right now.’”

Spielberg directed Schindler’s List and is the founder of Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, which is an organization that fights bigotry and keeps stories of Holocaust survivors alive. He wasn’t having any of Fox’s comments.

Spielberg has since refuted the firing and Fox’s reps told People that “It was her decision not to return.” Whichever the case may be, Fox was no longer part of the third Transformers movie, tainting her reputation ever further as an actress difficult to work with.

Not only did Kruger have his say about Fox, a few crewmembers from the Revenge of the Fallen set expressed their dissatisfaction with Fox, calling her “dumb-as-a-rock” and that she would wind up “a porn star in the future.” They also classified her as “thankless, classless, graceless.” Yowsa.

After all was said and done, believe it or not, Megan Fox was hired again by Michael Bay. This time it was for another potential movie series, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Fox played reporter April O’Neil in the film and it made a box-office killing, prompting the sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Things went better for Bay and Fox but the lackluster returns for the second Turtle movie halted thoughts of a third.

Midnight in the Switchgrass

And Megan Fox continues to work as an actress in Hollywood. She starred in Midnight in the Switchgrass opposite Bruce Willis in 2021 and enjoyed a small but memorable role in Netflix’s vampire thriller Night Teeth. She starred alongside Andy Garcia and Oscar Isaac in 2022’s comedy Big Gold Brick.

Plus, she starred in Till Death, a movie that had her trying to escape killers after her husband was found dead. The somewhat silly premise somehow landed with critics and the audience. It scored 90% on Rotten Tomatoes with many praising Fox’s performance in the insular film.

She has a growing number of projects on the horizon including a film with fiancee Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly, Good Mourning with a U. She’s set to appear in The Expendables 4, and will play a crime boss in the upcoming Johnny & Clyde.

Megan Fox married actor Brian Austin Green (Beverly Hills, 90210) in 2010 and together they have three sons: Noah Shannon Green, Bodhi Ransom Green, and Journey River Green. Theirs has been an off-and-on marriage, filled with break-ups and make-ups but now it seems like their latest split is the final nail in the coffin.

Green recently opened up about the split on his podcast …with Brian Austin Green.  “I wanted people to hear everything from me, and this is it.” Green also said he and Fox would not be commenting further on their split but later her offered some context on it. “I gave her a couple weeks, I figured she’s been out of the country, she’s jet-lagged, she’s been shooting nights, I have to give her some time to recoup a little bit and get back into life, and so I did,” he said.

Time didn’t help. “Neither one of us did anything to each other. She’s always been honest with me. I’ve always been honest with her,” Green said. “We’ve had an amazing relationship, and I will always love her. And I know she will always love me and I know as far as a family what we’ve built is really cool and really special.”
