‘Luigi’s Mansion’ is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2

GameCube classic Luigi’s Mansion is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, as the latest addition to the Online Library.

Luigi’s Mansion was released in 2001 and saw Mario’s younger, more nervous brother explore a haunted house and battle ghosts with a specially designed vacuum cleaner, the Poltergust 3000.

“Luigi wins a stately mansion, but he’s in for a ghastly surprise when he creeps through its front door and learns that his magnificent manor is teeming with ghosts. And worse yet, Mario is nowhere to be found! Enter Luigi’s Mansion, where a gallery of ghouls haunt the halls, secrets wait to be unearthed, and Luigi is … not the most courageous character around.”

As well as introducing King Boo and Professor E. Gadd to the Mario universe, Lugi’s Mansion went on to become one of the best selling GameCube titles, shifting more than 3million units.

Luigi’s Mansion was remade for the 3DS in 2018 while two sequels have also been released – 2013’s Luigi’s Mansion 2 and 2019’s Luigi’s Mansion 3. Now the original game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 for the very first time, just in time for Halloween.

Luigi’s Mansion will be joining the Nintendo Switch 2 Online Library on October 30 and will be  free-to-play for all Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.

“Despite really liking both Dark Moon (which gets way too much flack) and 3, I’ve never played the original. Excited to finally be able to,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I liked 2 and loved 3 but they never got close to the atmosphere of this game. The original felt way creepier, the sequels felt like Saturday morning cartoons,” added another. “I hope every new child playing gets to enjoy it as much as the younger me did,” wrote a third.

Switch 2 users can currently play F-Zero GX, The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, SoulCalibur 2, Super Mario Strikers and Chibi-Robo! via the Switch Online Library. Nintendo has also confirmed a lot more Gamecube-era titles will be coming to the service in the near future, including Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and Pokémon Colosseum. Exact release dates have yet to be announced.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can also enjoy a range of games from the GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, N64, SNES and NES as well as the Sega Mega Drive.
