‘Lord Of Rings’ game to “rival” ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ in the works

A new The Lord Of The Rings game set to “rival” Hogwarts Legacy is currently in the works, claims a new report.

According to Insider Gaming, a brand new Lord Of The Rings game is currently in development. Embracer, who paid almost $400million for the rights to the fantasy franchise in 2022, are said to be leading the project with other studios also involved.

Not much is known about the game but several sources have claimed it will be a third-person adventure game designed to “rival” Hogwarts Legacy. The report also says the new Lord Of The Rings game has been in development since last year and could be officially announced “soon”.

However in a statement, Embracer said that as “a general rule, we do not comment on rumours or speculation” while Revenge, one studio said to be involved with the game, also declined to comment on the “rumour and speculation”.

Earlier this year, the “disappointing” Tales Of The Shire: A The Lord Of The Rings Game was finally released after several delays. The cosy game lets players set up shop in The Shire and live out their Hobbit fantasies but some fans weren’t impressed by the “mediocre” farming/life simulator. “Bare-bones is probably the nicest thing I could say,” one fan wrote.

Meanwhile The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum game was released in 2023 and became one of the worst-reviewed games of the year according to aggregate site Metacritic. “It’s the “worst Lord Of The Rings game adaptation in history” said the dedicated Metacritic blog, with reviews calling it “dull”, “tedious” and pointing out game-breaking bugs, terrible visuals and criticising the extensive knowledge of Tolkien’s work that’s needed to properly grasp the plot.

A new game isn’t the only thing Lord Of The Rings fans can look forward to either. New film The Lord Of The Rings: Hunt For Gollum is due to hit cinemas in 2027 and will see the return of Andy Serkiss as Gollum. It’s also been suggested that Orlando Bloom could return as Legolas alongside Elijah Woods’ Frodo and Sir Ian McKellan’s Gandalf.

In other news, Daft Punk fans have praised the “absolutely incredible” Fortnite experience which launched over the weekend.
