The actor and director previously collaborated on 2010’s Inception – though DiCaprio has admitted that his top choice is a different project.
Speaking to Collider alongside One Battle After Another co-star Benicio del Toro, the Oscar-winner confirmed that The Dark Knight is his pick, to which his fellow actor agreed.
The 2008 film is the second instalment in the director’s Batman trilogy, and sees the Caped Crusader (Christian Bale) face off against the Joker (Heath Ledger). It has since gone on to be considered one of the greatest superhero films ever made.
Elsewhere, DiCaprio is reportedly being considered for a sequel to 1995 classic Heat, which is cited by Nolan as an influence on The Dark Knight. The new film will apparently tell a new story, with Adam Driver also linked to the project.
DiCaprio is set to re-team with Martin Scorsese in What Happens At Night, which will co-star Jennifer Lawrence. Based on a 2020 novel by Peter Cameron, the story follows an American couple who travel to a European town to adopt a baby, though encounter strange people after checking into a large, nearly-deserted hotel.

Back in September, DiCaprio spoke to NME about his “incredible” experience of seeing Oasis live recently, alongside his love for Radiohead.
Meanwhile, Nolan is gearing up for his next film, an adaptation of The Odyssey starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Elliot Page.
Page recently reflected on the “joy” of working with the director again after their previous collaboration on Inception, which came before his transition in 2020.
“To come back now, as you can imagine, being more comfortable in yourself makes these sorts of projects more enjoyable” he said. “To get to have a Chris Nolan experience again now meant so much to me selfishly.”
