Laura Jane Grace responds to wife’s accusations of spousal abuse

Laura Jane Grace has responded to accusations of spousal abuse made by her wife, Paris Campbell Grace.

The accusations came to light on Thursday (July 17), when Campbell took to Instagram and Threads, asking Laura to leave their home and claiming that she felt “unsafe”.

In the claims, Campbell accused her partner of recurrently “using her massive platform to attempt to hurt me” and said that she had locked herself in her office at the time of writing, as the Against Me! singer was “tearing the house apart as I type this”.

She also went on to claim that her wife was exhibiting “sheer irrational rage towards me daily”, and shared that she was taking to social media as she didn’t “know what to do here, and I have nobody to turn to”.

The source of some of the alleged anger, Campbell claimed, was due to her past experiences as a sex worker, which was something that LJG allegedly became “resentful” over.

“I feel invisible, I feel like nobody will believe me, and I know it’s not right,” she continued. “I feel like I’m living in a dystopian nightmare, everyone every day telling me how much this woman loves me… while on the daily she tells me she hates me, wants me gone, but if I try to leave, that’s an issue too!! I am not okay!!!!!”

Now, Laura Jane Grace has responded to the accusations of spousal abuse, apologising for her “poor decisions” but suggesting that the issue came from both sides of the marriage.

The update also showed a lengthy statement shared by a member of LJG’s touring crew, which vouched for her, and the singer’s caption read: “I would like to acknowledge my fault here and take responsibility for my mistakes. Anyone who has been paying attention can see clear as day that this has been a toxic, codependent relationship from the start.”

“It was reckless of me to get married so quickly and I made a lot of poor decisions where I absolutely should have known better,” the Against Me! singer added. “My poor decisions have impacted my kid, my band and my community. I hold myself accountable for it and sincerely apologise.”

The statement from her crew member adds that they thought the “abuse” in the relationship came from both spouses. “In every instance, we hear LJG tell Paris to leave her alone and Paris won’t,” it read. “She pushes and pushes until Laura snaps and yells at her to go away, and then Paris calls her reaction abuse. What Paris is doing is a form of abuse.”

It added: “I have spent so much time around the both of them, both on and off tour, and I have yet to see A SHRED of evidence that LJG is committing abuse. However, I have seen Paris behave in ways that are manipulative, isolating, and coercive.”

Later in the response, the person claims that the musician has been “trying to leave Paris for over half a year now but keeps getting manipulated to stay”.

“It is my belief that Paris latched on to a very vulnerable LJG for her own financial gain and follower count,” they later claim. “I have seen Paris isolate Laura from everyone that has any type of special relationship with her, and I have seen Paris’ possessiveness and inability to self-regulate take over and escalate to wild levels.”

The allegations against LJG from Campbell came on Thursday (July 17), a day prior to the release of Laura’s solo album ‘Adventure Club’. Paris contributed to that record as a co-writer.
