The news comes after the terror charge against Mo Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) was thrown out on a technicality last Friday (September 26). He has since said he is “absolutely” considering legal action against the British state over the case.
As for the speech featured on their forthcoming 7″, Kneecap made headlines following their performance at the first weekend of Coachella 2025 in April. The live-stream of their set was cut when they voiced their support for a free Palestine, and led the audience in a provocative anti-Margaret Thatcher chant. “Not only was that cut,” they later said, referring to the Thatcher remark, “our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either.”

Their slot at the second weekend of the festival saw political commentator Hasan Piker broadcast the performance live via Twitch. Slogans including “Fuck Israel, Free Palestine”, “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people” and “It is being enabled by the US government, who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes” were projected on the screen behind them as they played.
Coachella organisers reportedly said they were “blindsided” by the band’s pro-Palestinian messages and chants at the event. Later, Sharon Osbourne called for a “revocation” of Kneecap’s work visa, claiming that their comments had “compromised” the festival’s “moral and spiritual integrity”. The trio responded in disbelief, calling Osbourne’s statement “fucking wild”.
Kneecap hit back by calling the backlash “a coordinated smear campaign” against their efforts in “exposing the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people”. The group’s statement read: “The reason Kneecap is being targeted is simple – we are telling the truth, and our audience is growing.”
Defending themselves further, the trio added: “What we care about is that governments of the countries we perform in are enabling some of the most horrific crimes of our lifetimes – and we will not stay silent. No media spin will change this.”
The statement came around the same time that counter-terror police launched an investigation against Kneecap, regarding footage from one of their London headline gigs in late 2024 – which led to the recent court hearings.
At the time, Kneecap responded to the legal action by sharing a graphic that read: “18 Months Of Genocide Footage Not Under Investigation By UK Counter-Terror Police.” They later called the charge brought against Mo Chara “a carnival of distraction”, saying: “This is political policing […] We are not the story. Genocide is.”
Following the charge being dropped, Mo Chara said: “Better luck next time.” He also reiterated that the case was “a complete circus, it was a carnival, a distraction from what’s actually going on”.
“As our manager Dan Lambert said on the podium today, 87 people were murdered, entire families were murdered yesterday,” he added, referring to the ongoing crisis in Gaza – a cause the band have consistently championed throughout their legal challenges.
Kneecap’s NYC live-streamed gig will be filmed at a “secret location in Ireland”. The performance was announced after the group were forced to cancel their sold-out 2025 US headline tour due to the “close proximity” of Mo Chara’s final court hearing.
At the start of this year, Kneecap shared a new version of the fan favourite track ‘H.O.O.D’ along with some remixes.
