There’s nothing better than playing games together with a group of friends across multiple platforms, but if you’re not squadding up in Battlefield 6, the idea of cross-play might send shivers down your spine.
Fortunately for you, Battlefield Studios has given console players the option to switch cross-play off–protecting them from the quick hands of mouse and keyboard players. Here’s everything you need to know.
How to turn off cross-play in Battlefield 6
Turning cross-play off in Battlefield 6 is really simple, and it’ll take you less than 30 seconds. All you need to do is head to the game’s settings, select System, and then switch the cross-play toggle to off.
This setting is only available to those playing on console, as the toggle does not appear on PC.

How does cross-play work in Battlefield 6?
Cross-play allows players on different platforms to come together in the same online matches. In Battlefield 6, console players–regardless of whether they’re playing on Xbox or PlayStation 5–will always be matched together online. PC players are also thrown into the mix by default, giving you the opportunity to test your mettle against a wide variety of players.
However, while cross-play allows you to play with friends across platforms, it can be frustrating if you’re playing alone on console. Console players may feel at a disadvantage when matched against PC players, and having the option to toggle it on and off allows you to even the playing field in games like Breakthrough, Conquest, and more.
Turning it off does have a downside, though. By disabling cross-play, you’re limiting your matchmaking options–if you’re on PS5, you’ll only match with PS5 players in your region, for example. If the servers can’t find enough PS5 players to join your lobby, it’ll then backfill it with bots.
In other words, you’ll just need to weigh up your options when it comes to deciding whether or not to disable cross-play in BF6. If you want to play with friends, you’re locked into the setting, but if you’re not, you’ll need to decide whether you want to run the risk of having bot-filled lobbies and longer matchmaking times between rounds.
