Have you ever heard groaning while playing Grow A Garden? That is a Chicken Zombie, based on that moment from the Minecraft movie. The Chicken Zombie is highly sought after and not just because of its meme value. It actually has some of the best abilities available for any one pet, which give your plants a new mutation that makes your fruit worth a fortune, and an extra benefit for eggs.
While not one of the highest-ranked critters in our Grow A Garden pets tier list, the Chicken Zombie is still worth seeking out. However, you can’t actually get it through normal play. Instead, Chicken Zombies are very occasionally given out during a special event, and are by no means guaranteed to drop on any given week. Here is how you can get your hands on the Chicken Zombie pet in Grow A Garden and what it does.

How to get the Chicken Zombie in Grow A Garden
The only time that you may get a Chicken Zombie in Grow A Garden is during an Admin Abuse event. An hour before the next Grow A Garden update begins, the admins like to have a bit of fun with exclusive weather effects while testing out new ones, and to give players restocks of high-value items–most notably rare seeds from Sam’s seed store, higher-tier eggs from the egg vendor, and Levelup Lollipops from the Gear Shop.
The last time that a Chicken Zombie was given out was during the first part of the Double Admin Abuse event on October 4, 2025, with the second half also giving players the rare Junkbot pet. It will appear as a free pet in your hand, along with an admin message or two, which says the admins are handing them out to every player currently playing the game.

What does the Grow A Garden Chicken Zombie do?
As a pet, you can have it running around your garden, gaining levels, and eating fruits. However, it’s the Chicken Zombie’s two passive abilities that are the main attraction. The first is related to Grow A Garden mutations, in that the Chicken Zombie has a 21% chance every 29 minutes to turn a fruit Zombified, which provides the plant with a 25x multiplier.
In addition, should your fruits get the Infected mutation during the Jandel Zombie weather that occurs sometimes during an Admin Abuse event, the two combine into the Plagued mutation, which has a 102x multiplier. If this is then combined with the Radioactive mutation, the new Biohazard mutation has a 157x multiplier. On top of all that, the Chicken Zombie can also make all eggs hatch 10.41% faster, which is particularly handy if you have a stockpile of critters you’ve yet to hatch and you really want a high-tier pet.
