‘Hollow Knight: Silksong’ still doesn’t have a release date

Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are outraged that the latest Nintendo Direct didn’t feature any  updates about the long-awaited sequel.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced back in 2019. Originally the game was set to be an expansion of 2017’s Hollow Knight but developers Team Cherry later turned it into a fully-fledged sequel. However, they missed a planned 2023 release date and updates have been few and far between.

The game has been confirmed to be released at some point in 2025 while a number of updates to the Steam listing this summer had many fans assuming a surprise release was imminent.

Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed Hollow Knight: Silksong would definitely launch this year after a trailer for the game was featured in a Switch 2 promo reel alongside news of a 2025 release date.

Yesterday (July 31) Nintendo hosted a Direct livestream with news and announcements from third-party developers. Many assumed Team Cherry would use the presentation to finally reveal the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong with the comments full of fans demanding news. However nothing Hollow Knight-related was revealed during the “dissappointing” Direct.

“We got a fucking campfire simulator instead of Silksong,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Did we just lose,” added another shortly after the Direct ended. “We don’t learn do we,” said a third while another popular thread features a meme of a cat laughing at the viewer for getting their hopes up.

It’s not all bad news though. Microsoft has confirmed a playable demo of Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at this month’s Gamecom. “For those who can’t attend, check out the official Xbox @ gamescom Broadcast: Live From the Showfloor on August 20 & 21,” they added.

Fans will get a second chance to check out the demo at Game Worlds Australia in September. The most recent update from developers Team Cherry said the game will release “before” Christmas and isn’t tied to the launch of the handheld Xbox ROG Ally, which is also due for release at some point this year.
