‘Hollow Knight: Silksong’ release date could be confirmed this week

Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are convinced the upcoming Nintendo Indie World Showcase will have news about the release date of the long-awaited sequel.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced back in 2019 as a DLC expansion to 2017’s fiendishly tricky Hollow Knight. However it was so ambitious, developers Team Cherry later turned it into a fully-fledged sequel. It had been due to launch in 2023 but was delayed indefinitely and since then, updates from Team Cherry have been few and far between.

According to developers, Hollow Knight: Silksong will definitely release at some point in 2025 but an exact release date is still unknown.

That could change later this week though. Nintendo is set to host an Indie World Showcase on Thursday (August 7) with the presentation set to kick off at 2pm BST. Fans can expect “roughly 15 minutes of new announcements and updates” regarding indie titles for both the original Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. You’ll be able to watch the whole thing via Nintendo’s YouTube channel here.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is due to launch for Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed Hollow Knight: Silksong would also be coming to the Switch 2.

Later this month, Gamescom attendees will be able to play a demo of Hollow Knight: Silksong on the new handheld Xbox ROG Ally. Because of this, fans are convinced release date news will come before the end of August with the Nintendo Indie World Showcase the only confirmed presentation between now and then.

“It’s an Indie World showcase, Silksong is an indie game and it’s the perfect time for a release date,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

However other fans have started to lose interest. “At this point I couldn’t care less, this has become a meme and nothing else. The hype for this game has crossed a line that’s not healthy, good luck delivering on it. I almost feel bad for the devs,” wrote another fan.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Hollow Knight: Silksong fans have got their hopes up. There was anger after last week’s “dissappointing” 3rd party Switch showcase didn’t include any mention of the game and in June, several changes to Silksong’s Steam page had many convinced a surprise drop was imminent.

At the start of the year, Team Cherry was forced to confirm the game was real and after rumours that it had been cancelled began to spread online.

In other news, the official Resident Evil X account has shared a bizarre Duolingo crossover that’s baffling horror fans.
