Hideo Kojima has revealed his favourite song from Woodkid’s soundtrack for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach features an orchestral score from Ludvig Forssell and hours of procedural music from French musician Woodkid. A 16-track album was also made available to stream the week before the sequel was released and has racked up millions of streams.
Now Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has revealed his favourite song from Woodkid’s soundtrack.
Taking to social media, he wrote: “‘To The Wilder’, ‘Any Kind Of Love’, ‘Story Of Rainy’ and ‘Minus Sixty One’ seem to be the most popular tracks by Woodkid from Death Stranding 2.”
“I asked for ‘To The Wilder’ as the main theme (there’s also a duet version with Elle [Fanning]). Fragile’s theme song is ‘Any Kind Of Love’ with Bryce [Dessner] from The National on guitar). Rainy’s track is ‘Story Of Rainy’. The song that plays in the opening sequence set in Mexico is “Minus Sixty One’ (which is from Woodkid’s previous album). We tried pairing that song with the opening by chance—and it fit perfectly, so we went with it,” he explained. “My personal favourite is ‘Any Kind Of Love’.”
It seems these are the most popular tracks by WOODKID from Death Stranding 2.

Speaking to NME about making that track, Woodkid said he originally wrote it in Tokyo but it “needed a folk approach”. So he called Dessner, who he knew from his PEOPLE art festival in Berlin.”He really helped create that very folky song that I think is really interesting. It reconnected me with my early roots of making music but also it created even more contrast in the soundtrack,” which takes inspiration from metal, disco and pop.

Woodkid looked to artists who have “never followed the easy path”, such as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and James Blake for the Death Stranding 2 soundtrack. “They’re the angels on my shoulder, although sometimes they feel like devils,” he told NME. “If I make a song that sounds similar to something else, I move away from it. That is hopefully why my music is really hard to put in a box.”
A global tour celebrating the music of Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2 is due to kick off in November.
Recently, Kojima revealed that 79 per cent of players who complete Death Stranding 2: On The Beach keep playing it. “To everyone who has reached the ending: The world today is in a difficult state. It might be hard to hold on to hope for tomorrow. But know that there is someone out there who would risk their life to protect you – Even if you don’t notice, someone is connected to you, watching over you,” he added.
